Silver Tears - Silver Tears

Silver Tears is the new band by Berlin-based musicians Curses and Skelesys. Their self-titled debut was released earlier this month by Avant! Records and should appeal to everyone hungry for solid, gothic-tinted darkwave and post-punk. I don't want to diminish Skelesys' input on this album, but it seriously sounds like the follow-up to "Incarnadine" I've been waiting for. It's not as good, but the vibe is totally there. It's been on repeat almost every day since I discovered it.

Buy the album on CD and vinyl here. Stream below.

Curses - Another Heaven

Curses sheds his new beat cloak that defined a number of his recent releases, and embraces post-punk and synth-pop aesthetic for his new album "Another Heaven". I was a massive fan of his amazing 2022 LP "Incarnadine", and was anxiously waiting for his fourth album, released this time by Italians Do It Better. While Curses seems comfortable in this new, gothic new wave style, I can't help but feel the record lacks the kind of kick present in his previous projects. It's a solid album, but there's not a single track on it that makes me want to press replay straight after it finishes.

Buy "Another Heaven" here, and stream it down below.

Curses - Another Heaven

"Another Heaven" is the second single from the upcoming, fourth full-length from Curses, scheduled for the third quarter of 2024 via Italians Do it Better. The titular track is more pop-leaning than its predecessor "Elegant Death", but in no shape or form it means it's bad - on the contrary, I actually love it to bits, melodic and catchy new wave anthem. Stream here.

Curses - Elegant Death

Here's a pleasant surprise from Curses! "Elegant Death" is his new single promoting the upcoming album "Another Heaven", that will see the light of the day later this year thanks to Italians Do It Better. The morbid post-punk jam can be streamed here.

Curses - Next Wave Acid Punx Deux: Secret Cuts

End of last year Curses released the much anticipated follow up to his 2021 epic compilation "Next Wave Acid Punx", entitled "Next Wave Acid Punx Deux". A series of weird events somehow made me totally miss out on this main dish, but before I cover it here, I wanted to share its appetizer (or a dessert if you wish) - the "Secret Cuts" compilation. Twenty tracks that for some reason didn't make the cut for "Deux", luckily found their way to Bandcamp earlier this month. The line-up here is quite amazing, besides Curses who delivered one of my fav tracks "Get Lost", we get Chrome Corps with a zany EBM single, Ghost Cop with their anthem "You Can Never Go Home", acid techno from Günce Aci, spaced out remix of Paresse by Guy Tallo, and minimal tekkno from Moderna (plus much, much more). Fans of the new beat revival and the previous edition of "Next Wave Acid Punx" will be in love. If this is a compilation of "off cuts", I cannot wait to check out the full release. Tip!

Get the "Secrets Cuts" here, stream down below.

Gott & Curses - Together Alone

Incredibe mix, or actually two mixes b2b by Curses and duo GOTT, made for Rinse FM. The Curses part in particular hits all the right spots in my heart, recommended. Stream here.

J.W.B. Hits The Beat - Body On Body (Curses Revamp)

Less than three weeks are left until the premiere of Curses' much anticipated compilation "Next Wave Acid Punx Deux". Above you can listen to one of the latest singles promoting this epic release, a re-edit of the 1987 new beat classic "Body On Body" from J.W.B. Hits The Beat.

Curses Presents Tutto Vetro - No Mercy

Oráculo Records, in collaboration with Musa Records and Ombra Festival created a new vinyl series dedicated to the Valencia's 80s music scene. For anyone willing to dive deeper into it, check out this article and videos. Volume 3 in the series comes from Curses, who delivers four new beat hits under the banner "No Mercy". The cover art for the LP is probably the weakest part of the package - the tilar track as well as "Tuff Love" are simply incredible.

Pre-order the record here with a 15% discount, and check it out below.

Curses - Tornado Warning

Mutant new beat deliciousness from Curses, that feels like it crawled out from his "Incarnadine" outtakes folder. In no way it means it's weaker than anything on the album, and the theme of natural warning gives the track extra depth. Groovy! Buy here. In other news: "Next Wave Acid Punx" part two is coming! A vinyl DJ sampler can be now pre-ordered here.

Curses Feat. Jennifer Touch - Boundless (Remixes)

Third maxi-single with remixes promoting my fav album from last year. Three radically good remixes of the Jennifer Touch-featuring single "Boundless", one from Istanbul-based dj and producer Günce Acı, Hamburg based producer L.F.T. and Toulouse resident Kendal. Best of dark electro, synth-pop, d'n'b and all the murky spaces in-between. L.F.T. wobbly banger is my fav, but damn, everyone delivered here.

Support Curses by buying this single here. Stream below.

Curses - Boundless feat. Jennifer Touch // video

New video single for "Boundless" from Curses incredible last year's "Incarnadine". Featuring Jennifer Touch both on vocals and in the clip. Blade Runner vibes!

Curses Feat. Terr - Ghost Of Arms Remixes EP

"Ghost Of Arms" was for a long while my fav cut from Curses' incredible album "Incarnadine". Today Luca and Dischi Autunno premiered a three track EP with remixes of this dark synth-pop anthem, with contributions from South Korean producer and DJ Shubostar, Florence based producer Matisa and Parisian composer and orchestrator Wladimir Schall. The result is totally awesome, from Shubostar's cosmic italo take that highlights Curses' guitar work, to Matisa's hard hitting house, to hauntingly beautiful stripped-down version from Wladislaw, each remix is unique and shines a new light on the original single. Get it!

The EP can be copped here, and streamed below.

Curses - Lust & Fury Edits 2

Four fresh edits from Ombra International's head honcho Curses, who's been pretty unstoppable this year with the quality stuff he's been putting out. Originally meant to premiere on Halloween, "Lust & Fury Edits 2" dropped today due to some Bandcamp glitch. With their obscure titles I can only ID one track from the lot ("MMMB" is Malcolm McLaren's "Madame Butterfly"), so if you do recognise some of them let me know.

You can buy them here, but better wait for Bandcamp Day tomorrow. Stream below.

Curses - Miriam // video

Beautifully gothic, dark and obscure, "Miriam" from Curses finally got a visual treatment that matches its songwriting's brilliance. Directed by Jordan Hemingway, this is honesly the best music video I've seen all year.

Curses - Miriam Remixes EP

What a treat, this three track remix EP dropped earlier this month, but only today I had a chance to sit down and check it out. Curses' "Miriam" is undoubtely one of my fav tracks from 2022, so it's a joy to be able to hear reinterpretations of said gem by Boys Noize, Kim Ann Foxman and The KVB. From techno, through acid flavoured breakbeat to new wave-friendly post-punk vibe, no weak spots here.

"Miriam Remixes EP" is available for purchase from Curses' bandcamp here. You can stream the EP below.

Curses - Incarnadine

"Incarnadine" is the third studio album from New York via Berlin musician, producer, singer and Ombra International founder Luca Venezia aka Curses. Since its premiere in March this year, it hasn't left my stereo for more than a few days. I'm still baffled why it took me so long to write about it though, providing it's my favourite album of 2022 so far (and it looks like it will stay this way), which got cemented by seeing Curses play live in April at The Shacklewell Arms in London, where he absolutely killed it. The album itself is an ode to everything what's best in the 80's goth / electronic scenes, but translated for the new millenium. "Incarnadine" draws from darkwave, coldwave, post-punk and EBM, taking just the right amount of each of those genres, applying black mascara and compiling it all into a ten track strong unskippable record. Featuring two guest vocals (powerful Jennifer Touch in "Boundless" and incredibly charming Terr in "Ghost Of Arms") as well as bass from Ben Airey, the album is pretty much all Luca. From paying tributes to vampires on gothic jam "Miriam" to iconic guitar work on "Gretchen Bender" to chain-clad underground bunker anthem "Déjà-vu, Inc.", the record is an unstoppable force defined by bold and catchy melodies, dark atmospheres and throbbing beats. If you have a chance to experience Curses live, don't even think twice - do it. Future classic.

"Incarnadine" can be purchased here in digital format, otherwise try to find it through vinyl distros (bandcamp copies sold out). Stream it below.

Curses - Miriam

Luca Venezia is back with a new full-lenght Curses LP. Scheduled to drop on March 11th via Dischi Autunno, the album entitled "Incarnadine" will have 10 tracks, with the vampire jam "Miriam" set as the first single. Inspired by the 1983 movie "The Hunger", "Miriam" is a wonderful goth / new wave crossover that feels like it could easily last 10 minutes and not get boring. Win, looking forward to the rest of the album.

You can pre-order the 2xLP here.

Curses presents: Next Wave Acid Punx

Earlier this year Belgian label Eskimo Recordings unveiled a mammoth compilation of 38 tracks compiled by German producer and DJ Curses entitled "Next Wave Acid Punx". Spanning four decades of music, it's an epic collection of dark electronic dancefloor hits, including tracks from Suicide, Yello, Front 242 as well as modern faces of dark disco scene like Curses himself, Shubostar or Zombies in Miami. Whether you like darkwave, italo-disco, EBM or new beat, you'll find something special for yourself.

You can buy the album as a 3 CD set or split into 2 LPs here, stream below.
