Voodoo Crystals - Reconcile

VC is back with a new mutated variant of his witchhouse virus, short but punchy. Stream here.

Monomorte - Prism Noir

Two awesome cuts from Monomorte just dropped on bandcamp, both free to download. "The Temple of Mithras" leans more towards dark ambient soundscapes mixed with ominous synths and far-away beats, while "Dead Air" slowy evolves into a chill trip-house jam. Ace.

Jang Hun - From The Other Side Of My Ocean

I'm a sucker for a good origin story, and this new single from Jang Hun (aka Witcha from earlier this month) delivers some great storytelling. "From The Other Side Of My Ocean" is a calming ambient recording utilising a lost radio transmission Jang 'caught' a couple of years ago. Super dreamy. Read the whole story here, where you can also download it.

Nattymari - Beyond Baruch (For Douglas Steindorff)

New Nattymari joint, recorded for his friend. Weird, slowly burning IDM mutation that feels like something made for a space church. Cop here.

Sidewalks And Skeletons - Exorcism

I've been putting off checking out Sidewalks & Skeleton's latest album for months now, and man I'm glad I finally did. "Exorcism", released like his previous three projects by Re:Mission Entertainment, is probably Jake's best album so far. It's a perfect collage of mainstream-leaning witchhouse, that heavily draws from synth-pop, dark electro/chiptune, trap, industrial techno and even phonk. For everyone who liked but (rightfully so) cancelled Mr.Kitty and Crystal Castles, this LP will be a blast, as the echos of their styles definitely define some the album's most pop-friendly hits.

"Exorcism" is out now via Bandcamp, there you can also pre-order last copies of the vinyl version of the album. Stream the whole thing below.

Kutmah - Ride It Like You Stole It

"Ride It Like You Stole It" is the latest mixtape from Kutmah, 18 tracks strong compilation of dope (and obscure) beats, influenced by hiphop, electro, industrial, minimal wave, dub and psych. Includes great edits of N8NOFACE and Zola Jesus/LA Vampires. Totally rad, don't sleep.

Cop it here, stream below.

Scythe - Deviant Burial In The Oak Grove

"Deviant Burial In The Oak Grove" is a brand new single from Scythe, following the amazing "Candlelit Descent Down the Initiation Well" from last year. This new track continues Travis' foray into the fantasy ambient lore, carried by moody synth line, field recordings and angelic chants. Purchase here.

Wednesday 23 November 2022

Three Wishes - Valentine Road

Absolutely immaculate mixtape from Three Wishes dropped just a few hours ago, blending rap, metal, rave, folkish ambient and witchhouse into a 20 minute capsule of sonic pleasure. This one takes me back to early days of the witch house scene, when the one and only rule was there was no rules. Unfortunately the mix is not downloadable, stream it away here.

Pharmacist - Jaundice

New single from Pharmacist came out a couple of days ago, and I've been obsessed with it since. The melody here is simply incredible, backed with Colin's vocals and an amazing synth line that comes on roughly half way through. If lo-fi was ever meant to be used in a good way, this is it. Total banger. So far, available only on SC. Stream here.

Chino Amobi - X1 2

Sino-club and ethereal ambient mutation from the ever-amazing Chino Amobi. Incredible addition to his catalogue that will satisfy fans of Fatima Al Qadiri's "Asiatisch". Stream here.

Za Za - Za Za

Za Za is a collaborative project from the minds of Richard Vergez (Night Foundation) and Mónica Mesa (doris dana), brought to life following their performance at Edge Zones in Miami during the summer of 2022. Their self-titled LP is described by the label to be deeply rooted in improvisations, yet it manages to sound incredibly cohesive and natural. A hypnotising collage of dark jazz, obscure found sounds and drowsy drone that will transport you to another time and place.

As always with Noir Age, the album is out on tape and can be ordered here. Stream down below.

Pahor - Bezdan

Every now and then I come across a random Bandcamp link, totally not expecting anything in return and the music blows my shoes off. Bosnia and Herzegovina's Mostar-based darkwave band Pahor is one of those examples. Their debut album "Bezdan" is a flawless foray into melodic punk-rock brushed with darker shades of synth-pop. Although I don't understand a word they sing about, the music is universal and won me over after the first 10 seconds of the opener "Supstance". Give this one a go, it begs for a vinyl release.

Purchase the album here, and stream it below.

Dancing In Slow Motion - Haunt

I've been sleeping on DISM's latest tracks for a few months, and they've been keeping busy and dropped 6 new tracks since my last post. "Haunt" (stylised as "haUnt") is a single that was released in October and it's a fantastic, White Ring-like piece of atmospheric, female vocal-driven witch house track, that stole my heart after the first listen. Check it out here.

Humanfobia - A Humanfobia Witch And Vapor Tribute To Phenomena

For Halloween, Phantasma Disques reissued Humanfobia's creepy tribute to Dario Argento's "Phenomena", an eerie exploration of the film's motifs through dark ambient, ethereal drone and witch house. Initially released as an EP in May on the band's Bandcamp, this new expanded edition also includes bonus collabs with Sona Nyl, Mario Lino Stancati and Invisible Illusion, as well as slow, droney edit of "Phenomena Communication With Insekts" backed with a 10 minute long trippy remix from the label's main act Mater Suspiria Vision. The whole album has an uneasy feel thanks to its ghostly, quite skeletal track structure that highlights each instrument and vocals. You can download the basic version of the release here for free, or purchase the new edition on CD here.

Monday 14 November 2022

Modern Lamps - New Spirit House

Droney psych burner from Modern Lamps (Grant Evans and Rachel Evans from the amazing Hooker Vision label). "New Spirit House", released on a 3" mini-CD, is a 15 minute long trippy jam session "built around an organ drone, a fuzz bass groove, and propulsive hand drumming". Totally hypnotising music. Buy it here, only three copies left.

A TE H - Bahay Vol 1

A TE H aka Yuk. continues his journey of experimentation and returns with "Bahay Vol 1" - the first part in a series dedicated to interpretation of house and techno music. I love "Strawberry Taho" in particuar here, sounds like a collage of beats from Dem Hunger and early Teebs.

You can purchase "Bahay Vol 1" here, and check it out in full below.

Curses Feat. Terr - Ghost Of Arms Remixes EP

"Ghost Of Arms" was for a long while my fav cut from Curses' incredible album "Incarnadine". Today Luca and Dischi Autunno premiered a three track EP with remixes of this dark synth-pop anthem, with contributions from South Korean producer and DJ Shubostar, Florence based producer Matisa and Parisian composer and orchestrator Wladimir Schall. The result is totally awesome, from Shubostar's cosmic italo take that highlights Curses' guitar work, to Matisa's hard hitting house, to hauntingly beautiful stripped-down version from Wladislaw, each remix is unique and shines a new light on the original single. Get it!

The EP can be copped here, and streamed below.

Thursday 10 November 2022

Vidchajj - Trash

Vidchajj dropped a new EP on his Soundcloud yesterday, four tracks of grungy shoegaze and slow witchhouse. Three original cuts and an excellent remix of Bones' "Ctrl Alt Delete" that beats the original easily. Unfortunately the EP is not downloadable, but you can stream it here or after the jump down below.

Andy Morin - Life Is An Experiment (Cloud Climber Single Version)

Death Grips' producer Andy Morin takes on New Age Doom and Lee Scratch Perry's "Life is an Experiment" and turns it into a spaced out beats banger. The single is promoting the upcoming album "Remix The Universe" that will feature remixes by Quicksand, BLK JKS, Cola Wars and more. It's scheduled for January 23, 2023 and will come out on vinyl and digital. Pre-order here.

Tuesday 8 November 2022

Estoc - Serenity

Estoc's debut album "Serenity" is here, and it is a sheer force of bare-knuckled club sounds. After her first single dropped in September my hopes were really high for the album, and after spending the last couple of weeks listening to it on replay I'm happy to report the whole LP is a blast that delivers raw energy. Estoc's sonic topography is wonderfully versatile and adventurous, if you're up for a hard techno ride with brutal kicks and hellish soundscapes, look no further. "Empyreal Shroud" is incredible. Recommended!

Buy the album here, stream it below.

Louisahhh - Exclusive Set For OFFSET

Totally rad mix from Louisahhh for OFFSET podcast, I've been listening to it for a week now non-stop after I discovered it on SC. Kicking it off with For Those I Love's "I Have a Love (Overmono Remix)" is just pefection. Don't get fooled though, it gets wilder and heavier as you carry on. Bliss. Stream here.

N8NOFACE - Bound To Let You Down

I've been a fan of the artistic path and progression of N8NOFACE for a while now, his journey from the Crimekillz days, while organic, has been really exciting. The gritty synthpunk love-opera "Bound To Let You Down" centered around his broken-hearted modern bard persona came out last year on tape via Eyeball Records, and a few days ago it finally saw a vinyl release. It's a fantastic record that's equally funny, witty and moving, and packs a punch like a Macho Man in his prime time. Totally radical and recommended. The records can be pre-ordered here. Unfortunately there's no decent streaming available, I refuse to link sp*tify on this blog, and the label seems to given up on Bandcamp. There's a YT playlist here if you don't mind ads, but better yet go get the wax.

Witcha - EP I

"EP I" is the debut release from South Korean darksynth producer C. Hun Jang under his new alias Witcha. Previously exploring the world of droning and shoegazing ambient under the variant of his real name, Witcha's new EP is an excursion into much darker and more melodic territories. Released by his own label Lilies In Water it runs at just under 18 minutes across its five tracks, ranging from dark synthwave (opener "Darkdream") and witchhouse-inspired electro ("Charade") to retro-futuristic soundscapes and pulsating beats on "Saint" and "Prey". The outro "She Kills" is an exception here - a droning soundscape with delayed vocals lurking somewhere in the back. Fans of the French synth scene (Carpenter Brut or Perturbator) should check this one out for sure.

Download "EP I" here, stream below.

Lorn - Entropyyy // video

Lorn and his film director Sagans go Inception in their latest visual collaboration.

Satanic Hispanic - Disobey

Satanic Hispanic is a witch-house producer from Chicago, who also co-founded Blvsphemy Records. "Disobey" is his latest single that gives a witchy spin to a sick industrial-based track, four minutes of ungodly goodness. Buy it here.

M!R!M - Faultless Pitch // video

M!R!M is London-based musician Iacopo Bertelli (aka Jack Milwaukee), whose album "Time Traitor" came out in April via Avant! Records. "Faultless Pitch" was one of singles from it, video of which you can see above. Fans of Riki's "Gold" should dig this. The video makes me want to re-watch Almodóvar's "The Skin I Live In" too.

Curses - Lust & Fury Edits 2

Four fresh edits from Ombra International's head honcho Curses, who's been pretty unstoppable this year with the quality stuff he's been putting out. Originally meant to premiere on Halloween, "Lust & Fury Edits 2" dropped today due to some Bandcamp glitch. With their obscure titles I can only ID one track from the lot ("MMMB" is Malcolm McLaren's "Madame Butterfly"), so if you do recognise some of them let me know.

You can buy them here, but better wait for Bandcamp Day tomorrow. Stream below.

Wednesday 2 November 2022

Ghost Cop - End Credits+

On Halloween night Ghost Cop announced a cassette reissue of their amazing album "End Credits" from 2020. Featuring two bonus tracks ("Hey Mister" and "You Can Never Go Home", previously released as singles), the tape version is limited to 50 copies, with 25 units in red transparent shell being sold via Bandcamp, while the other 25 in smoky shell are available from the band when touring. I cannot recommend this album enough, a beautifully dark mixture of atmospheric synthwave, industrial-flavoured darkwave and spooky coldwave. Music for replicants for bleak autumn/winter nights.

I doubt the tapes will last long, so grab your copy here before they're sold out. Stream the whole album below.

Beau Wanzer x Hieroglyphic Being - 4 Dysfunctional Psychotic Release & Sonic Reprogramming Purposes Only

60th release from Natural Sciences comes from two Chicago underground figureheads - Beau Wanzer and Hieroglyphic Being. While Beau delivers a minimal/industrial beat-hybrid with some looped bars thrown on top, HB provides a 14-minute long set of mutant, alien IDM drum patterns. Sick release with one of the best titles I've seen in a while.

Order the split here, and stream after the jump.

Tuesday 1 November 2022

Mothermary - Resurrection (Louisahhh Remix)

Although credited as remix, this feels more like a cover, because LOUISAHHH not only reworked the original dark electro-pop single from MOTHERMARY, but also provided vocals that go perfectly with the slow rhythm of the beat. Mixed by her frequent collaborator Maelstrom, the remix is available on Soundcloud here for free download. Do not miss this one.

Space Between Clouds - Spiral

David Ralicke returns to AKP Recordings with "Spiral" - a six hour long project that collects ten drones used as building blocks for his debut self-titled album I reviewed in May. Presented here in both twenty minute and fifty-five minute variations, the slow burning tones drift smoothly like a sleepy spaceship without fuel, lost in the minimal cosmic void. I doubt anyone will be able to digest this behemoth in one sitting, even the press info says to use it instead to "meditate, clean your dishes, or watch your tea brew in the morning sun", and that's perfectly fine - the beauty of such a unique recording is that it has an infinite replay value that can be appreciated without worrying about the track order or even the classic song structure. Just press play and zone out.

"Spiral" is out on Bandcamp here, you can also enjoy it by streaming it down below.

6L▲$$ †▲BLΣ 6IRL$ - Hair Like My Knife Blade Cuts My Hands

New drag mixtape from the 6L▲$ †▲BLΣ 6IRL$ has dropped. Continuing where the last mix left off, GTG kicks "Hair Like My Knife Blade Cuts My Hands" off with lush and fragmented ambient, trippy shoegaze and droney synth before morphing into slowwwwwed hits from Britney Spears, Duran Duran. The whole thing is wrapped up with a dragged remix of deadmau5 & Kaskade's "I Remember" by Caspa. Download it here.
