Mutant Zones interview: E_Death

Here's a special in-depth interview with one and only Salem Anhedonia aka E_DEATH / Edith Underground. Her music and visuals should be familiar to anyone reading this blog, I've been championing her creative outputs for many years now, and it makes me happy to see her grow as an artist and keep gaining new fans. Enjoy the read, and make sure to follow Salem on Bandcamp where you can also buy her music, as well as on Youtube where she posts her videos and vlogs.

Edith Underground - Withdrawal

So I thought Edith is no more, but here comes "Withdrawal". Salem decided to dust off her Soundcloud archives and upload a compilation of 14 witchy, hip-hop leaning beats and noise-rave bangers that should please fans of "Heaven's Night" as well as Internet GF works. This is probably her most witch house release in a long while...

Download "Withdrawal" for free here. Stream down below.

Dagger Forest label is back

I'm happy to announce that I will be restarting my label Dagger Forest, which I founded in 2014 and ended up putting out 8 tapes and a promo CDr before I had to put it all on hold. After a seven year hiatus I'll be releasing three exciting albums on cassettes from some of the most amazing artists that have been pushing the boundaries of the undeground: Stay Healthy's "Dirt", Edith Underground's "Heaven's Night" and SCYTHE's "Candlelit Descent Down the Initiation Well", coming out December 27, 28 and 29 respectively. Follow DF on Bandcamp here.

Tommy - Crying During Sex (Edith Underground Remix)

Tommy is the secret alter-ego of Ethel Cain. While I love her music and am looking forward to the upcoming LP "Preacher's Daughter", what triggered me to blog today was this remix from my fav underground icon Edith Underground, who remixed Ethel's "Crying During Sex" single. You can check out the original version here, and stream the ethereal remix above. Amazing stuff.

Edith Underground - I Need U (Instrumental)

New Soundcloud drop, Edith goes Clammy Clams on this one (with an upbeat twist half way through). Wonderful cloud rap instrumental sampling "The Gate" by Caroline Polachek, it begs for a Main Attrakionz collab.

Edith Underground - Vanity (Demo)

Over the last week Edith dropped four new tracks on her Soundcloud (including the Voodoo Crystals collab I mentioned a couple of days ago), with the latest witch-rave mutated techno extravaganza "Vanity (Demo)" being my fav. Accorrding to the caption there MAY be a vocal version incoming at some point in the future, so that could give the track an interesting spin. Make sure to also peep her Aphex Twin's "Windowlicker" nighcore flip and "Propane (Demo 2)", a buzzy electro-witch tune.

Edith Underground x Voodoo Crystals - Double Scorp

Two of my favs on one track, yes! I've been hearing about this collab for a while now, so happy to see it finally materialize. It's quite amazing to be able to identify both VC and EU influences in "Double Scorp", the throbbing beat, processed vocals, all those little intricacies that define each of them are here mashed up and they work. Rave witchousers rejoice!

Edith Underground - Ash Wednesday

Edith's back with a new EP and a VHS tape for all your collector's needs. "Ash Wednesday" is a four-track passion project, as she says made it in between my last bender and my decision to recently get sober. Most of those tracks sound like they could've been lifted from Edith's "Heaven's Night" album or "Mother, Reborn" EP, so if you were into those past projects this is a must. "U Break Me" is a total jam and a personal favourite here. Moreover she also announced a limited run of VHS tapes entitled "Dreams Of Eternal Life", that will feature "Dreams of Eternal Life" short, the "Mother, Reborn" visualizer and additional content. Each tape will be unique and hand-made. Don't sleep.

You can grab "Ash Wednesday" here, and stream it below. VHS tapes can be ordered here.

Edith Underground - [REC]

Today's Bandcamp day brings a string of interesting releases, one of them being new compilation from Edith Underground. "[REC]" is a collection of seven witchy demos and drag edits, majority if not all unreleased. My personal fav is "I'll Lay You To Rest" with vocals from Ethel Cain.

The album is free to download here, but you can always donate some $$$. Stream the whole thing below.

Edith Underground - What Did I Do To U? (Demo)

Edith flipping Grouper's classic track is one of those things that make life worth living. Last year she dragged "Heavy Water/I'd Rather Be Sleeping" for her visual mixtape "Neighborhood Watch", and today we get lo-fi house edit of "We've All Gone To Sleep". Someone should totally link them two for a collab project. Meanwhile, stream this gem below.

Edith Underground - Mother, Reborn

"Mother, Reborn" is a 3-track follow up to Edith Underground's incredible debut "Heaven's Night". Part post-internet trance nostalgia (check out the titular track with its retro-futuristic vaporwave vibe), part uncompromising breakbeats, this short extension of the album is an unexpected but most welcome surprise for everyone still hungry for more after such an amazing LP.

You can download "Mother, Reborn" for free here.

Edith Underground - Heaven's Night

Edith Underground is an electronic producer and visual artist based in Chicago, IL. After two iconic video mixtapes last year (The Flesh of Fallen Angels and Neighborhood Watch), this is Edith's first proper longplay since leaving behind her Internet GF alias in 2019. While the preceding (and gloriously outrageous) single "Host" could be seen as a prelude to what's we're being offered on "Heaven's Night", I don't think anyone was ready for this 360° underground club experience. For a long while now, Edith's music has been drifting away from her early, obscure witchy bedroom roots I first fell in love with on the "Teen Witch" tape back in 2017, towards dark and gloomy dancefloor bangers, channelling club & rave music from the 90s. From trance, through jungle and breakbeat, to techno and classic house (with a bold JB sample there, love it, Nike7up fans pay attention), "Heaven's Night" is like doing drugs, going to a nightclub you've never been to before and having the time of your life...
