Voodoo Crystals - Chaos

Voodoo Crystals returns with a new solo album after the excellent collab with The Implicit Order last year. "Chaos" was released last month via Phantasma Disques and, following D&D guidance, can be classified as "chaotic good." I swear, no one makes music like Adam; the album is loaded with delirious electro and no-wave witch house, building a universe of possessed hyperpop. Listening to this project feels like stepping through the mirror into Wonderland and jumping on the wildest ride in the theme park while high on sugar and adrenaline. Amazing stuff.

You can download the album here, and buy the CD version here. Stream the whole LP below.

Voodoo Crystals & The Implicit Order - No Eye Of Heaven Can Penetrate

This exciting collaborative record between underground icons Voodoo Crystals and The Implicit Order is one of the standout releases from the new batch by Dagger Forest, which dropped today. "No Eye Of Heaven Can Penetrate" uncannily evokes images of a warped world hidden behind our reality, taking the listener on a journey through electro-acoustic transformations, dark ambient soundscapes, interdimensional voice manipulations, and deconstructed witch-drone music. Both artists feed off each other's strengths, curating an album full of sounds both strange and wonderful - sure to inspire and intrigue fans of them both.

The limited edition tape can be orderded directlyhere. Bandcamp version should be available on Friday.

Voodoo Crystals - IAMNOTAPHEXTWIN

Image

"IAMNOTAPHEXTWIN" - the genre-blending alien mixtape from Voodoo Crystals heralds the return of the Mutant Zones mix series! After the amazing first volume from STRFLL last year, I'm happy to present the second installment, curated and compiled by Voodoo Crystals. His selection is as unorthodox as his music, spanning styles, decades and tempos. Fantastic listen from start to finish, and like STRFLL's tape - free to download from Soundcloud. Make sure to check this interview I did with Adam back in 2023, and head over to his Bandcamp page to check out his music.

Voodoo Crystals - Mutiny Party

Halloween special from VC comes in shape of a two track single "Mutiny Party". Acid-witch house with a synthpunk soul on "Mutiny" and more industrial spirit on "Party". Sick, make sure to support here. Adam also has a new album out now on Phantasma Disques, but I haven't checked it out yet.

Voodoo Crystals - Rough

"Rough" is the latest EP from Voodoo Crystals, released by Vertigo Cult. Just like it's lead video single "Nerve", the EP is oozing with this cyberpunk, dystopian 80s electro-nostalgia, blendding minimal EBM, dark electro and glitchy witch house into a sick six track capsule teleported from the days of future past. One of Adam's best for sure!

Download the EP for free here, and stream it below.

Voodoo Crystals - Nerve // video

Glitched out class of 1999 is serving as a backdrop for Voodoo Crystals cyberpunk EBM joint "Nerve", probably my favourite track from his recent EP "Rough".

Voodoo Crystals - Always/Forever

Adam is a gift that keeps on giving, here's his out-of-nowhere new EP "Always/Forever". Two fairly long compositions that are built from cosmic ambient manipulations and outerspace new age melodies, both with a hint of underwater synth pulsations. Silver Surfer music. Get it here.

Voodoo Crystals - I Love You

Off to Bandcamp folks, because Adam released a special "Hollowqueen" EP for this year's spooky season. Combining elements of synthpunk, industrial and shoegazed witchhouse, "I Love You" EP sounds like nothing else that's out there right now, further cementing VC's position as a truly original figure on the grave wave scene.

Download it for free here (but please donate if you can) and stream down below.

Mutant Zones interview: Voodoo Crystals

I'm pleased to present to you my conversation with Adam from Voodoo Crystals. His project has been around for a while, spawning numerous mixtapes, albums and unique collaborations. We cover all that and dive into his past to talk about inspirations and less known projects, as well as his ongoing partnership with Phantasma Disques. Hope you enjoy the read, follow him on Bandcamp where you can also buy his music.

Crucify April - Cereal Killed Her (VOODOO CRYS†▲LS Cover)

Tru underground lo-fi rap from Crucify April, covering a 2012 single from Voodoo Crystals off his mixtape "Chalk Circles & Cocaine". Produced and rapped by C/A. Very noise!

Voodoo Crystals - Prism Communictation

New album from Voodoo Crystals arrived out of nowhere and took over my speakers. Adam describes "Prism Communication" as (and I'm paraphrasing here) an attempt at manipulation of various sine waves for the sake of sonic exploration. Fourteen tracks deep, the record is filled with acid synth mutations and cyberpunk witchhouse, but honestly it's the small bits like juke-inspired drum arrangements or delirious 90s rave elements that make this album so fun to experience.

Download the "Prism Communictation" here, but tbh you should support the man as much as you can. Stream below.

dead/robin - Light

Dead/Robin is Adam from Voodoo Crystals and his friend Tim. "Light" is their first proper single, and by proper I mean there are 3 other tracks on their Soundcloud which are tagged as live demos. Lo-fi witchy tune that hits similar notes to what Pharmacist has been creating lately. It's both heavy in terms of emotional baggage it carries, but also sounds light and mellow. Stream here and give them a follow.

Voodoo Crystals - 1717

New EP from Voodoo Crystals dropped today. Entitled "1717" it's available in digital format from his bandcamp or as a limited edition mini CD, as part of the "Japan Mini CD Promo Triangle Set #1", released via Phantasma Disques. The 3CD set, which also includes EPs by Pwin Teaks and Vengeur, can be ordered here. I only started listening to "1717" but can already tell it's a unique collage of distortion, delay and post-witch beats amplified with lyrics that channel vulnerability, self-destructive tendencies and longing for companionship. The EP is hard to describe with one catch-all term, as darkwave, IDM, dark electro and witch-house elements clash and overlap each other, forming a short and dynamic release.

Buy the digital EP here, CD version here, and stream it all below.

The Implicit Order x Voodoo Crystals - Clouds Eating Themselves (An Endless Loop)

Haven't heard much of that slow, twisted ambient with a witchy edge lately, stuff that I††, Pwin Teaks and Mahr used to put out on a regular basis back in the day. So it's a nice surprise to have this collab track between The Implicit Order and Voodoo Crystals land in my mailbox today. By channelling screwed drones, industrial experimentation and noir glitches the duo managed to craft a track that brings to mind the uneasy vibe from The Black Lodge, but with a weird 70s/80s sci-fi appeal. I dig it.

Edith Underground x Voodoo Crystals - Double Scorp

Two of my favs on one track, yes! I've been hearing about this collab for a while now, so happy to see it finally materialize. It's quite amazing to be able to identify both VC and EU influences in "Double Scorp", the throbbing beat, processed vocals, all those little intricacies that define each of them are here mashed up and they work. Rave witchousers rejoice!

Voodoo Crystals - Sludge

Seems like slowing down is not on Voodoo Crystal's agenda as he kicks off this new year with a six-track slime-synth mini-album. Drowning in reverb and delay "Sludge" oozes with warped samples and screwed beats, all neatly covered in layers on distortion. On a larger scale it essentially offers a no wave approach to witch house by rejecting the overplayed trap drums patterns and buzz saw synths, something that's been plaguing this scene for years now. To some degree "Sludge" also brings to mind the music and aesthetic Vandalaze has been curating via his Slimetrax label, but with a way darker and more sinster edge. Anyway, it's a really solid release, I respect VC's nonconformism and am here for it.

Download "Sludge" for free here, and stream it all below.

VOODOO CRYSTALS - Unreleased II

VOODOO CRYSTALS shared on his Bandcamp a compilation of unreleased, rare and previously Soundcloud-only tracks. Synth punk, witch house, experimental body music, and mutant electro all cross paths and clash with each other throughout the release making the listening experience an unpredictable journey. Due to the nature of such a project some tracks are stronger than others, but I still love the fact that artists share more obscure works in this format.

You can purchase "Unreleased II" here, and stream it below.

Double feature from VOODOO CRYSTALS

VOODOO CRYSTALS is a witch-house project of the Connecticut-based producer Adam (previously half of Lyrebird). Since 2013 he's been steadily building a solid portfolio of work, most of which was released via Phantasma Disques label. His latest longplay "mybrainhurtsmyfeelings" is a multi-layered psychedelia coated with noisy synth-punk and screwed experiments, a counterculture to all the predictable wave/trap hybrids that took over the dark electronic scene in the last few years. Released in September, the album is a chaotic and bumpy ride through VC's state of mind, full of raw emotions, industrial beats and warped synths, reminiscent of the early stuff from Beau Wanzer.

Last month Adam dropped another interesting project on his Bandcamp, consisting of three remixes of Mater Suspiria Vision tracks sourced from their recent soundtrack. The first (and my favourite) of the three trippy modifications could be already heard on the "Acid in the Rabbit Hole" compilation, the other two are exclusive to this set. All of them reshape the source material using elements of mutated dance music and acid IDM.

You can buy "mybrainhurtsmyfeelings" on CD here or digital here. The MSV remix set can be streamed and downloaded below.

Mater Suspiria Vision's Kosmische Musik + remixes

"Kosmische Musik" is a new soundtrack from Mater Suspiria Vision, scoring Cosmotropia de Xam's latest movie feature "The House That Eats The Rabbit". Released last month, it takes the listener on a trippy journey through vast and bleak sonic wastelands of ghostly synths, selectively scattered with guest vocals and shrouded with droning serenity. The album sits somewhere between Emeralds' analog kosmik sound and more desolate works of Drug Machine on "Amnesia" (the latter being one of many side-projects of Cosmotropia de Xam). With "Kosmische Musik" MSV crafted a captivating and transcendental listening experience, working equally well both on and off screen, that can be recommended to any lovers of dystopian electronic music.

You can order the album on a limited to 33 copies CD here, or as a deluxe edition package with an art book here.

Alongside the main album, Mater Suspiria Vision has also just dropped a compilation "Acid in the Rabbit Hole", with a great array of edits and remixes of the opening track "Säure im Kaninchenbau". Boasting an amazing and diverse line-up, including Monomorte, Morgve, Voodoo Crystals and Churchterror among many others, the album is a brilliant addition to "Kosmische Musik", interpreting it through rave, techno, post-industrial and old school witchhouse lenses. Make sure you grab the CD here, because it'll be available in physical form only for the next 2 days.
