Voodoo Crystals & The Implicit Order - No Eye Of Heaven Can Penetrate

This exciting collaborative record between underground icons Voodoo Crystals and The Implicit Order is one of the standout releases from the new batch by Dagger Forest, which dropped today. "No Eye Of Heaven Can Penetrate" uncannily evokes images of a warped world hidden behind our reality, taking the listener on a journey through electro-acoustic transformations, dark ambient soundscapes, interdimensional voice manipulations, and deconstructed witch-drone music. Both artists feed off each other's strengths, curating an album full of sounds both strange and wonderful - sure to inspire and intrigue fans of them both.

The limited edition tape can be orderded directlyhere. Bandcamp version should be available on Friday.

Fainting Faith - Reborn EP

I blogged about Crossgardens a while ago, and today I'm happy to share another representative of the Polish witch house scene - Fainting Faith with their EP "Reborn". His remix of "Breathe" appeared on STRFLL's most recent maxi-single, and with that co-sign, I felt it was worth diving into his first project, released a month ago. Consisting of five tracks, the EP opens with "Blooming", a soothing ambient piece that gently eases you in, preparing you to embrace what follows. The remaining four tracks adopt the classic witch house sound of its first wave, notably the grandeur of Ritualz' drum patterns and the melodic synths and basslines reminiscent of White Ring, delivering a nostalgic hit that's neither cheesy nor cheap. The proximity to those aforementioned artists is clear, but it feels deliberate and reassuring, giving the EP a welcome sense of familiarity without slipping into imitation. Great start, and one to watch!

NC Ives - Home Sweet Home

Australian country and outsider blues shape the sonic landscape of NC Ives' latest album, "Home Sweet Home". It was released three months ago, and I swear it hasn't left my speakers since. There's something incredibly alluring and hypnagogic about it that I can't quite pin down. It has the same kind of eerie mood that Twin Peaks radiates, with a hint of Dirty Beaches. Ives manages to inject some more lighthearted moments here and there (like the RJD2-inspired hip-hop beat in "Streetwalker" or the tambourine and looped female vocals in "Beg U" which give off a warmer vibe), but ultimately, it's the elements of doom jazz, sad crooning, and droning guitar that define the album's haunting core. Incredible record from start to finish.

Philippe Blache (Day Before Us) - Tristitiam Et Metus Tradam Portare Ventis

Last year, Conjvre the Circle released a dark ambient album by Lyon-based composer Philippe Blache titled "Tristitiam Et Metus Tradam Portare Ventis". While Day Before Us is his main project, Philippe decided to chose to use his birth name for this record, which suggests it's a more personal and intimate project. Mixing atmospheric soundscapes and drones with neoclassical piano lines and haunting vocals, the album will slowly creep into your headphones like an eerie mist, gradually blending the blurry line between dream and reality. The remains of vocal whispers add an extra layer of witchhouse-y creepiness, reminiscent of more experimental compositions by Mater Suspiria Vision.
