Old Amica - För Alltid

Old Amica's new LP "För Alltid" has been a special guest on my phone for many weeks now (it was released on August 9th via band's Bandcamp), but I never got around to sitting down and sharing my thoughts about it. The lead single, "Tiden far" dropped a while ago and I've loved it to bits. The record is inspired by the themes of time, fleeting moments, and fading memories. While their previous album "Fyr" evoked a sense of post-rock/ambient dreaminess, with nods to Sigur Rós or Foxes In Fiction, "För Alltid" drifts even further into earthy, minimal, and sublime ambient-drone territories. Blending deliacte electroacoustic experiments with field recordings, this record is like a warm, reassuring hug on a cold autumn day. Check out "Klorofyll" or "Tiden Far" to get a taste of this. The closing track "Till dig" gives me chills with its low tempo grandeur. Incredible record from start to finish. Now released on tape via Le Mont Analogue / Dronarivm.

Get the tapes here, or digital directly from the band here. Stream the album in full below.

Old Amica – Tiden Far

"Tiden Far" is the lead single from Old Amica's upcoming album "För Alltid". Beautifully cinematic ambient experience, its mood brings to my mind some of the tense scenes from the movie Interstellar. The new album will be released via Dronarivm on August 9th.

Old Amica - Debris Sides

Released last month, "Debris Sides" is a companion piece to Old Amica's debut album "Debris" from 2011 (sadly not on Bandcamp, try iTunes for now). Consisting of five tracks that didn't make the cut for the final version of the LP a decade earlier, the EP is a truly wonderful treat for the fans of the duo. Threading between folk, post rock and ambient soundscapes, with soothing melodies and wonderfully planned arrangements, Old Amica managed to capture and revive some of the magic of that bygone era. A special and comfortably warm project, recommended!

Old Amica - Fyr

I reviewed (and recommended) Old Amica's previous single "Tuvåkra" back in October, but for some reason never posted about their album "Fyr". Obviously, I really, really loved the lead single, I do thing it's their best cut from the album, but that doesn't change the fact that "Fyr" is something special on its own. From the early notes of the opener "Saida" until the closing soft edges of "Till Slut", you should be able to immerse yourself in Old Amica's sublime mix of ambience and soothing atmospheres, often lead by modern classical piano and backed by a number of one-off eclectic instruments and humming vocals. The whole album feels like flipping through a family photo album, sandwiched between your grandparents and listening to the captivating stories about their lives. If you like Sigur Rós or Foxes In Fiction this is something for you.

You can purchase "Fyr" on CD here, and stream it below.

Old Amica - Tuvåkra // video

Between 2012 and 2016, one of my favourite blogs Stadiums & Shrines used to run an amazing series of singles entitled Dreams, which culminated with the release of a compilation "S&S presents: Dreams". The series - as well as the compilation - was a beautiful ode to fleeting moments, painted with strokes of ambient, indie folk, ethereal downtempo and lush, shoegazing pop music. I'm writing all this, because a few days ago I got an email from Old Amica, a two-man band from Sweden consisting of Johan Kisro and Linus Johansson, who wanted to share with me "Tuvåkra", a new video single promoting their upcoming album "Fyr". Basking in a dreamy Nordic sunlight, translated here with delicate guitar strumming and melodic piano keys, "Tuvåkra" is a warm and atmospheric post-rock meets indie electronica nugget that will appeal to the fans of Sigur Rós, ambient-leaning works of the Sincerely Yours label, and the aforementioned Dream series. "Fyr" will be released on October 14th via Whitelabrecs.
