Various - Beyond The Body

In celebration of WITCH-HOUSE.com's 15th anniversary, I released a new compilation titled "Beyond The Body", with tracks inspired by body horror movies. This latest release is a testament to the spirit and diversity of the witch house genre. The project features an incredible and eclectic lineup of artists - Ghost Mirror, Writhing, Tenderness of Wolves, Ourobonic Plague, Silence Embrace, Humanfobia, STRFLL, Cosmic Wildling, Voidscan, Zazie Productions, Textbeak, Skøgen, I††, MORGVE, ßęđŧīmĕ Šŧōŗĩėş, and Marth Daul - each contributing uniquely unsettling and atmospheric tracks, spanning a wide range of styles. With witch house at its core, the compilation pulses with elements of dark ambient, ghost drone, industrial, and noise, pushing the boundaries of experimental sound and genre fusion.

Ourobonic Plague - G.A.: Minus One: Currents

Ourobonic Plague dropped "Currents" a few months back, as a prequel to "G.A.: Zero: Crystallisation". We're still in dark and gloomy territory, but now charged with faster tempos that point toward industrial witch-house, deconstructed glitch breaks, and mutated techno. "Saucerer" is my jam.

Spanning multiple genres and decades, this one will be a special treat for all the small and big screen connoisseurs. Stream above, and like with all our mixes, you can also download it directly from Soundcloud. Enjoy!

Ourobonic Plague - G.A.: Zero: Crystallisation

It took me ages to finally sit down to this new EP from Ourobonic Plague, but I'm so glad I did. Following last year's "Slop", "G.A.: Zero: Crystallisation" offers five new compositions that feel more fleshed out and intricate. Listening to the whole release, I can't help but imagine a dystopian microcosm described by industrial beats and ominous sound design. Ourobonic Plague has always been unafraid to experiment with various genres, and here we get a short yet potent dose of drone, hip-hop, witchstep, and dark ambient Ace.

Ourobonic Plague - Slop

Ourobonic Plague wrapped up 2024 with a full-length album for Vertigo Cult titled "Slop". Built on "sonic crumbs, sketches, loops, beats and field recordings", the record sounds like the bastard child of mutated alien-IDM, raw industrial-drone experiments and stripped to the bone beatmaking - all wrapped in a witch-house'y shroud of obscurity. The whole thing does feel like a soundtrack to a horror video game, stuff that CRAVE was doing on his "Save Room" LP, but OP twists his soundscapes more towards industrial, cold electronic territory.

As always, grab the album on Vertigo Cult bandcamp for free. Stream the album down below.

Ourobonic Plague - Crumbs [EP 2]

Part two in the techno-influenced EP series from Ourobonic Plague. "Crumbs [EP 2]" picks up the pace where EP1 left off, starting with a droning, industrial-like transmission called "The Plan", which leads the listener into the underground club sounds of the next four cuts. "Coro Del Caos" is my personal favourite here—an addictively dark and minimal song. The release concludes with a mirrored track "nalP ehT", which stylistically takes us back to square one with its machine drone chant.

Ourobonic Plague - Crumbs [EP 1]

I have so much to catch up on when it comes to Ourobonic Plague's output from 2024, but I guess it's better late than never. First on my list is his EP "Crumbs", released in May this year. Finding himself at a crossroads in his professional career and with time to spare, Nick decided to explore the realms of the techno genre. The five tracks that make up this release loosely play with the concept of techno label, and are injected with a solid dose of Nick's signature industrial and drone experimentations. It almost feels like stepping into an unknown club at 2 a.m. by mistake and being captivated by the strange yet fascinating music coming from the speakers. Give it a listen!

Ourobonic Plague - Hogwash

"Hogwash" is the second maxi-single promoting Ourobonic Plague's album "Activated Sludge". The titular track, lifted from the upcoming LP, is a droopy hip-hop beat that got lost on its way to witch-house convention. Sludge beatmaking that gives a nod to DJ Screw. "Boneits" is an exlusive bonus track, a bleep-bloopy field recording that feels like you landed at the rehearsal of a band, it has its unique charm, especially that it's followed by "HBI_SET_091223", which is a set from the Headless Blood Idol group show OP did in December 2023, consisting of four unreleased trax.

Ourobonic Plague - Megabark

Ourobonic Plague's new album "Activated Sludge" is slowly creeping on us, but before it dropes Nick has served a "megasingle" "Megabark" consisting of two new tracks, backed with an instrumental and acappella. The titular track sounds like a haunted breaks dubplate played on a slow speed turntable. "Carhole" feels more witchhouse'y, both when it comes to its tempo and synth use, and this one really resonates with me.

Grab it here, and stream all the tracks below.

Ourobonic Plague - Invert Enact

Cosmic ambient, droning suspense and grainy transmissions from the outerspace make up "Invert Enact", a new 3-track release from Ourobonic Plague collecting soundscapes used on his Youtube channel. Nick calls it "concrète with a twist of hypnagogia" and I love this decription.

Ourobonic Plague - Encounter

"Encounter" is the latest EP from the Australian sonic nomad Ourobonic Plague. Four tracks that form this release showcase a range of influences and styles Nick has mastered over the last decade, from the dark and gritty drone opener "Meditation" to slow-burning minimal bass-hop instrumental "Preparation" that morphs into the titular d'n'b madness, to the closing experimental wastelands' breaks of "Rumination". Dope and eclectic mix, especially "Encounter (Confrontation)".

Doom Data - Number Nine

Doom Data is a new collaborative project between Australian producer Ourobonic Plague and LA-based songwriter / vocalist James Quentin Devine. Citing The Bug & Roger Robinson, Michael Hutchence & Ollie Olsen, and Sunn 0))) & Scott Walker as inspirations, "Number Nine" is their first official single from the duo. However, this slow, brooding track with heavy bass and somewhat drowsy vocals (and I mean it in a good way) makes me think of a crossover between Kode 9 and the Spaceape's "Memories of the Future" album and Water Borders' work, a shadowy dub-step and triphop crossover. It's advertised as "just a beginning", definitely waiting for more. Download here.

Ourobonic Plague - Stepping It Lightly Towards The Abyss

After two singles, "Stepping It Lightly Towards The Abyss" has finally landed on my digital doorstep. Consisting of nine tracks, a 27min long megamix and two bonus crambient remixes lifted from both singles that promoted the album, the record is a rollercoaster of emotions, tempos and approaches. At a micro level, it's a mix of dystopian atmospheres, 180BPM jungle beats and brooding bass, occasionally injected with "zone" tracks - four interlude-like compositions that provide a breather from the fast-paced d'n'b extravaganza. However, by taking a step back and looking at the album as a whole, one can't help but notice that there's a feeling of anxiety lingering there, almost like those tracks are a response to the chaos the world is in right now. Maybe that's why the song that appealed to me the most after the first few listens was "Splinters", there's something comforting in the melody hiding behind the drumwork. Really great stuff overall, makes me feel like I'm watching "Uncut Gems" after downing a six-pack of Redbull.

"Stepping It Lightly Towards The Abyss" is out now and can be purchased on bandcamp here. Stream below.

Ourobonic Plague - Egregore Jones 2: Activated Sludge

Second and final single before Ourobonic Plague's new album "Stepping It Lightly Towards The Abyss". Inspired by a hypothetical collaboration between Cronenberg and Troma, "Egregore Jones 2: Activated Sludge" is a mutant d&b slasher, hiding behind a mask of industrial grittiness. The track is actually a re-work of "Egregore Jones", which was originally released a month ago through a compilation "Dawn of the Headless Blood Idol". Side B of the single is a crambient remix of the "Egregore Jones 2", stripping it from its drums and adding layers of textured drones and noise, transporting the listener to Wes Craven's Elm Street. Buy the single here, the album will be out on Friday.

Ourobonic Plague - Going Along

"Going Along" is the first double-A single promoting the upcoming album "Stepping It Lightly Towards The Abyss" from Australian experimental producer Ourobonic Plague. Side A is a rad jungle cut that sounds like it's meant to be played during a climactic evacuation scene in a dystopian action movie. Oddly specific? Maybe, but there's something gritty about it, hiding behind the layer of fast paced drums. The crambient remix on side B takes away the drumwork, and focuses on building a noisy, droney atmosphere instead, sort of an aftermath of what was going on in the titular track. OP actually did a solid write-up about this release, so head over here to read more about it and cop it.

Ourobonic Plague - Buffalo's Dreaming

"Buffalo's Dreaming" is a two-track drone/ambient single from Ourobonic Plague that captures his state of mind in the aftermath of the passing of a friend. While the titular track leans towards more uplifting atmosphere, the "Griefmix" version takes a sombre turn as it delves into the darker side of ambient, bringing to mind Tim Hecker's "Haunt Me, Haunt Me Do It Again".

You can purchase both tracks here, and stream them below.

Ourobonic Plague - Matte Black Axe

Ourobonic Plague is an alias of Australian experimental music producer Nick Sweepah, who I've been following for over 10 years now thanks to his submission to the Aleister Crowley-inspired compilation back in 2011. His latest single "Matte Black Axe" is a brooding capsule of eclectic tones and inspirations, a slab of heavy beats that are constantly exposed to various electroshocks as the track progresses, slowly rolling through the dark ambient moorlands. It'll be part of an album that will see the light of the day later in the year, so make sure to follow him on Bandcamp for further updates.

You can get the single here.
