STRFLL - Breathe Remixes

To coincide with the release of STRFLL's debut album "In Memoriam", a four-track EP/single was published with four remixes of "Breathe", originally recorded with Suffer Ring on vocals. We get one in-house remix by STRFLL themselves, as well as a witch-electro banger from the Polish newcomer Fainting Faith, French house surprise from Witcha, and an evil noise rendering from Pepsy. I love the diversity of sounds here, and you should definitely check this one out.

Buy the remix EP here, and stream it below.

Morgan Hall - Fuller's Teasel

It's been a year since we've had a new project from Greek noise wizard Morgan Hall, and the hot off the press "Fuller's Teasel" marks his 2025 comeback. Released on cassette by Austin-based label Breathing Problem Productions, the album feels like a fever dream from Apocalypse Now, full of anxiety, hallucinations, fear, pain and acceptance, all conveyed through a mix of dark ambient, power electronics and industrial noise. "The Foxgloves Are Nodding" will hauntingly drill into your consciousness, while "Mask Of The Botanist" deliver a calming dose of judgment day tranquility.

Grab the digital album here, and the tape version here. Stream all the track down below.

GHXST - Cosmic

Doom-gazers GHXST return with a brand new single "Cosmic", which can be purchased on their Bandcamp page here. The track is a catchy jam that blends psych, noise and stoner shades of rock, and it gets better with each listen.

Sofia Reta - Petrol EP

In May, Sofia Reta released this intimate synth-pop EP "Petrol" that totally flew under my radar. I'm slowly catching up with my backlog of releases, and I'm happy to have come across this today. All three tracks sound like alt-pop version of Phil Collins in his prime taking on modern, minimal electronica, incredible deep and mellow grooves, the EP flows from one song to another smooth as silk. For some reason it makes me think of Mulholland Drive cinematography. Bliss.

"Petrol EP" is available for purchase here. Stream all three tracks below.

Final Grrrl - Domina

The new single from Final Grrrl, "Domina", channels witched out Lady Gaga, short and sweet track that promotes her upcoming EP "Dominatrix. Peep it here.

Pale Palace - Leave Your Things Behind

Pale Palace has just unloaded a ton of new material on his Bandcamp, so it will take me a while to go through it and share it on the blog. To start off, we have the "Leave Your Things Behind" single, a cloud rap meets ethereal witch house combo that may take you back to Clams Casino's golden era. Cop it here.

Mutant Zones interview: Monomorte

Image

Monomorte has been consistently building a following and expanding his catalogue of singles, remixes and EPs for almost a decade, before finally unleashing his debut album in 2021. In this in-depth interview, we go back to his beginnings, explore both regional and esoteric influences behind the project, and chat about playing live in 2025. Dan has also prepared an exclusive mix for the blog, titled "Shadow Alchemy". Press play above and enjoy the read!

Blooming Stones - The World Speaks In Mysterious Ways

Blooming Stones is one of many aliases of Bratislava-based producer Juraj Bolf, whose other project, Bitter Course, I covered earlier this year. "The World Speaks in Mysterious Ways" is his third album as Blooming Stones, following the "Cycles" tape on Black Artifact, and self-released "On Purulent Meadows". Released by Trust Collective, this new record is oozing with gritty textures that are juxtaposed with ambient tones and cinematic synths, and contrasted with processed, often illegible vocals. An album for the rebirth of a civilisation in a dystopian wasteland.

You can still buy the tape version here, and stream the album below.

Pepsy666 - Vvitchterror Tape Vol.1

Graveyard beats for the hellish rave, courtesy of the German witchraver Pepsy (РэрϟЎ). Trashrave meets witch house with a solid dose of kicks from the gabber and hardcore universes. Radical shit.

Cop the tape here, and stream it below.

S3wer Dweller & House of Leaves - Shadows Under A Grim Atrophy

I've been a huge fan of horror scores and soundtracks ever since I played Alone in the Dark 3 on my PC back in the 90s, so this one hit home the moment I pressed play. S3wer Dweller and House of Leaves are two young producers out of Tennessee, whom I discovered thanks to Exsufflation (who also features on this EP). Conceptually, "Shadows Under A Grim Atrophy" sits somewhere between CRAVE's "Save Room" and the Silent Hill soundtracks. in a place occupied by discarded horror sound effects, forgotten dark ambient soundscapes, and forever-lost witch house beats. It's equally creepy and fun in its approach to the idea behind it. Love this.

The EP was released by Vertigo Cult, and as always can be downloaded for free here. Stream it below.

V.A. - Amulet Of Tears

The Lithuanian ambient mavericks Amulet of Tears are celebrating their 5-year anniversary with the release of this massive compilation showcasing the talent that has graced the grooves and tapes of their boutique label. Mutant Zones favourites Zhe Pechorin, Night Foundation, BODYXVIII, Script, and Volunteer Coroner all leave their mark, alongside a number of other acts new to me. Honestly, this is a fantastic project that demonstrates impeccable curation and a wholesome community. Happy birthday to the founders, I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Ekolali - For Why You Happy

Last year, I reviewed an album by Swedish composer Mattias Lagerkvist, released under his alias Murkla. Today, I'd like to share his more prolific side project, Ekolali. Championed by labels like Constellation Tatsu, Not Not Fun, and BAKK, and with numerous releases on tape and vinyl, Ekolali is best known for his explorations of ambient and psych-drone. "For Why You Happy" marks his return to these sonic realms, with a solid dose of Seahawks-style yacht exotica and new age loops sprinkled on top. It's a delightful trip from start to finish. Get yourself a tape here.

Kutmah - Sacred Conversations

"Sacred Conversations" is a new, essential Kutmah LP, dedicated to and inspired by the late beat maestro Ras G. This is his second tribute to Brotha G, after 2020's album "A Tribute to Brother Ras G & The Afrikan Space Program". With twenty six nuggets influenced by deconstructed boom bap, chopped up cosmic transmissions, LA's Sketchbook flava and smokey dub, Kutmah created an album that is a straight up reminder about his beatmaking craftsmanship, and created a bridge between his own style and the quirky and unique Ras G vibe. One for the heads.

Get the album here (tapes available, vinyl sold out), and stream it down below.

Attic Black - Drone Tide 1 & 2

Wild sea drones courtesy of Attic Black. Two deep and menacing soundscapes that sounds like they were recorded somewhere in the Bermuda triangle a few decades ago, and only now resurfaced. Love it. Check both tracks here, cop them for £2.

Death's Cold Embrace - 50

Chris released "50" back in May, but with everything happening in my life, I missed a lot of music announcements. On this particular single (which also comes in a shorter, radio-friendly version, as well as a slo-rev edit) DCE finds himself sliding into that neat litte niche that In Death It Ends left behind - blending gothic post-punk, witch house and darkwave. Very cool, but I must admit I'm not sold on the slower version, the original is much better.

Grab the single here, and stream all three versions below.

oOoOO - Where's Three?

New "old" demo from oOoOO dropped on Soundcloud, sounds like something from the Drab City sessions. Stream here.

The Implicit Order - We Need Nothing From You

Horror ambient piece from Anthony Washburn's TIO project. "We Need Nothing From You" feels like a witchy chant, repeatedly uttered over a sacrificial victim (to their terror).

Human Hollow - Playing Dead

My favourite Portland-based band Human Hollow are back with a new single! Like many of their previous tracks, "Playing Dead" was created during one of their wholesome against the clock sessions, which you can watch here. It's a raw and hard-hitting EBM-fuelled banger - I'm totally loving the instrumentation skills here, as well as the vocal effects. Support the band, and cop the single here (available in two versions).

Tuesday, 1 July 2025

Ritualz - Testify

"Testify" is the second single promoting the upcoming 15 years anniversary compilation from Ritualz. The track dials up the zombie tempos of the 2010 era, serving a dose of the old school vibe that could easily make it to JC's first two EPs. Pre-order the album "Forever" here.

Monday, 30 June 2025

Pure Silhouette - Fairgrounds

Pure Silhouette is Language Instinct's own Greg Nunn, this time with a sci-fi-esqe experimental transmissions that linger somewhere between multi-layered ambient, musique concrète and deconstructed sound design. I say "sci-fi", because listening to "Fairgrounds" makes me think of Nolan's epic movies, where reality bends and folds into itself, creating an elaborate, kaleidoscopic collage of sounds, melodies and textures.

Download "Fairgrounds" here. Stream the album below.

Montoya - Call Away

Emogazer Montoya returns with his latest single "Call Away", a self-produced hip-hop/indie ballad. Download/stream here.

STRFLL - B-Sides

"B-Sides" is STRFLL getting their house in order before the premiere of their debut album, collecting some of the loose joints that didn't make the cut. "(2)" is my personal favourite here, all the tunes are louder and more in your face, but I guess that means nothing to anyone who hasn't heard the album yet (I had the privilege). Overall, it's a good selection of bonus tracks that, in my opinion, rightly didn't end of on the final product.

Get the pack here. Stream below.

Courtney Cole - Payphone // video

"

New video single from Stay Healthy's most prolific artist, Courtney Cole. This one goes heavy on the hip-hop side, slow and heavy.

Thursday, 26 June 2025

Yeong Die - Late Call

I'm obsessed with this incredibly familiar-yet-alien artwork created by 3D designer Uljiro Kim for Yeong Die's new two-track single "Late Call". It features a minimal, deep house burner on side A, and an equally skeletal techno piece with a slight tribal flavour on side B. Very good. Cop both tracks here.

Ruhappy - Giants Fall Like Rain Drops

Ruhappy, for a short time back in 2012, was a UK-based duo consisting of Jakob and Bunny (of Medulasa fame). Their collaboration didn't quite work out, and Jakob took over the project for a while before retiring it for a decade. Recently, he uncovered a bunch of files from that era - including "Giants Fall Like Rain Drops" - and decided to give them new life. This single could be filed alongside the atmospheric productions of Holy Other and the defanged, ambient-leaning work of Ben Frost. It's a hauntingly beautiful, beatless piece that has me excited to hear more from the vault. Get it here.

Frostburn - Torn Apart

Vertigo Cult's new signee is the Welsh witch house wunderkind Frostburn, who debuts with his new EP "Torn Apart". Repping the new wave sound, Frostburn's productions carry a lo-fi aura reminiscent of Vidchajj or Dancing In Slow Motion's instrumentals, bridging a generational gap between early SALEM-era drag and a more modern take on witch beats. Richly layered drums and deep basslines are at the forefront here, setting the scene for tales about murky back-alley dealings and cross-country journeys with no future in sight. Sick debut.

Download the EP for free here, and check it out in full below.

Dracula Syndrome - With Bludgeon Blows And The Odours Of Decay

Dracula Syndrome is an enigma. She (I assume?) is from Norway and makes truly unique music. Her latest EP, "With Bludgeon Blows and the Odours of Decay", consists of only two tracks that couldn't be more different - yet somehow they make perfect sense when placed side by side. "Bronze Magician" is the ultimate coldwave jam for dungeon explorers and tomb raiders, with a bit of that early-Ritualz kick to it - I love it to bits! On the flip side, "Alpha 66" delivers a wall of textured, grimy, uncompromising noise that abruptly ends the D&D-style adventure of the first track and lures you into a fighting pit filled with deformed orcs willing to kill everything in their path. This may be my discovery of the month. Super stoked to dive into the four earlier releases on Bandcamp!

Kutmah - Bxxtlgvol1

Rushing to post this bootleg, before the copyright hawks come barking at Kutz. "Bxxtlgvol1" consists of six blends put together by Kutmah, featuring vocals from Doom, Nipsey Hussle, Gonjasufi and Pharoah Sanders. The opening mash-up with Suicide is a killer.

Download it here, and stream all the tracks below.

STRFLL - Solstice

Ok, I thought "RIP" was the final EP before STRFLL's debut album, but I guess you can't stop the creative drive of an artist, and I'm here for it. "Solstice" is thee latest release from the Northern Europe's drag epicentre, a release that feels extra low-end, murky and melancholic. With six tracks and two guest features (the immaculate Pharmacist and a newcomer Brick on Linkin Park-esque banger "When Uuu Sleep"), this EP is a perfect appetizer before the main course that's coming very, very soon!

Support STRFLL by getting this EP here. Stream down below.

Party Trash - Flashbacks

Party Trash released three (!) new albums today, one of which is "Flashbacks". Whether the title hints at a conceptual direction or suggests the project consists of older productions, the album stands out as a groovy, hip-hop-inspired house record, soaked in chill Balearic vibes and downtempo laziness. The last two tracks take a surprising turn, led by breakbeats - but they still blend in well witth the rest of the album. It's a mellow ride from start to finish, kind of a perfect soundtrack for a hot summer evening.

Bless Joe for offering this project for free here. Stream it below.

Mater Suspiria Vision - Cruxifixion Néon Sur Hollywood Blvd // video

"Cruxifixion Néon Sur Hollywood Blvd" is the first video single promoting the upcoming album "Cinemagoria" from Mater Suspiria Vision. Starring Violette de Lestrange, the NSFW black and white clip is paired with a haunting beat layered with heavy delay effects that channel that classic MSV vibe. Unfortunately, due to nudity, Youtube bans the preview above, so head over here to see it. The album will be out on June 30 on CD.

Datataste - Power Word Kill

Datataste is an experimental outfit formed by two Vancouver-based musicians - Adrian Long and Ron Luther. They launched the project in 2021 with "Shuttle PDX", a release that leaned toward the foreboding end of the ambient spectrum. Their debut album, "Power Word Kill", is a more eclectic offering - still occasionally lurking in the misty ambient zone, but more often morphing into a plethora of electronic subgenres. Echoes of analog techno, deconstructed IDM, and library sounds for sci-fi TV pilots ripple across the record, creating a soundtrack that feels both oddly familiar and asymmetrically alien. On top of all that, the album features some of the coolest track titles I've seen for a while ("David Lynch's Basketball Purgatorium" is peak) - that alone should convince you to check it out.

The album is out now on Panospria label, and can be purchased here or here. Stream the whole LP down below.

Field Designer - Aesthetic Limitations

Lithuanian purveyors of the finest ambient albums, Amulet of Tears, secured the release of Greg Nunn's latest LP as Field Designer earlier this year. The cover art of "Aesthetic Limitations" might suggest dry, brutalist compositions lurking beneath - yet the long-play consists of nine tracks that, while embodying some of that raw craftsmanship, showcase textured aural landscapes that shift between ambient-noise, drone, and musique concrète.

You can still grab this album on tape here. Stream it in full below.

Rabbit Hole 7 - Strange Medicine

Rabbit Hole 7 is a project born from the mind of musician Austin Davis, who also runs the label Aural Atmospheres. "Strange Medicine", released last December, occupies a space that is both wonderful and strange, a bizarro ride channeling the spirits of the unexpected, the unknown, and the experimental. This could easily pass as a witch house release from 2010, which might explain why I'm so drawn to it. Amazing stuff, get it here.

Black Light District - Impossible

Black Light District has been steadily drip-feeding my Soundcloud timeline with new compositions, and "Impossible" is his latest. A melodic dark/synthwave single with romantic sensibilities. It makes me think of an imaginary '80s teen movie - where the goth outcast gets the girl and rides off on a motorbike into the night. Stream here.

Moon 17 - TX_1320

I've been waiting for Moon 17's debut for ages - ever since Spike Hellis signed them to their label Over-Pop. The album, entitled "TX_1320", finally dropped today, and is available in digital and tape formats, with a vinyl release due in July. The husband-and-wife duo, Zack Hames and Samantha Conrad, deliver eight electronic body music tracks that ebb and flow into a modern industrial sound, supported by rad drum machines, shouty vocals, and occasional gnarly guitar riffs. It's raw, punchy and energetic - making me hope Moon 17 will visit the UK soon, because I'd love to test those songs live! I'm hooked, the intro alone is a small masterpiece.

Order the physical edition here, and stream the whole LP below.

E_DEATH - Stay Tr1ll

E_DEATH follows up the Valentines Day mixtape "TR1LL", by flipping, remixing, speeding up, murking and defacing tracks from that tape and compiling those edits on this new album "STAY TR1LL", that came out today. Strap in and get ready to be thrown into this hyper-reality of night-witch-core.

Ritualz - Nothing

"Nothing" is the new single from Ritualz, promoting his upcoming double album "Forever", which celebrates the 15-year anniversary of the project. The record is scheduled for 18 July, and will be released by Re:Mission Entertainment. Ritualz not only hand-picked 20 singles spanning his entire career, but also re-recorded every one of them, breathing new life into the classics such as "Baba Vanga" and "Third Eye Sixth Sense". The album will also include two brand new tracks - "Nothing" (a crossover between the sounds of "Outworld Music" and "Doom") and yet-to-be-released "Testify". You can preorder the album on 2CD here.

White Stains - Interior Age

Earlier this month, Language Instinct released this ambient album from Brussels-based musician Koenraad Impens, here known as White Stains. His record "Interior Age" is a meditative trip into dronining soundscapes, field recordings and chillout tones, all finely packed into this seven-track capsule. This could work as art gallery muzak or otherworldly soundtrack to unmanned Jupiter expedition. Best enjoyed late at night.

There are limited edition tapes available here. You can stream the whole project down below.

Tuesday, 17 June 2025

Frostburn - Felled

Sick new discovery, Frostburn is a witch house producer based somewhere in the USA. His latest single "Felled" is a 3-minute gem that starts with a screwed wah synths and then hits you with deep bass and sick drum work. It fits into this exciting post-SALEM era of production, championed by artists like Dancing in Slow Motion and Vidchajj for example, but still manages to bring something fresh to the table. Stream here, excited to follow this artist going forward.

Monday, 16 June 2025

Pain Magazine - Violent God

Pain Magazine is a new supergroup formed by members of the French hardcore punk band Birds In Row, along with the duo Maelstrom and Louisahhh. Their first single, "Violent God", is a post-everything track that mixes equal parts anger and anxiety, channeled through Louisahhh's intense vocals. Fans of Chaos Doll will dig this. Get the single here.

Tetsüo ii - Phase IV

Incredibly delicate cosmic EP from Tetsüo ii, returning after last year's "Menagerie". Layers of blissful arpeggios will subtly guide you on a journey to the outskirts of the Milky Way, with each track telling its own story - one that also fits seamlessly into the grand picture of "Phase IV" like a puzzle piece. For fans of Panabrite this is a must.

oOoOO - Bird & Lyre

New lounging single from oOoOO. Chris is going through some mood swings at the moment, last year he announced that he was working on a new album. Later, he decided to sell the copyrights to his entire catalogue, and for the past couple of months he's been posting demos and unreleased crumbs of tracks. Fingers crossed the album still comes. Stream "Bird & Lyre" here.

Hex Wolves - Bad Actor

Here's a perfect example of the power of artwork, I saw it and had to check it out. Hex Wolves' "Bad Actor" EP came out last year, via Valley Electroniks. Berlin Calling for Uncut Gems crowd, industrial tek charged to max, featuring remixes from FOTISMO and Spheric.

Get this release here. Stream after the jump.

Script - Violinist Death

Today I realised I haven't shared the last two releases from the ever-amazing Language Instinct label. Script is the alter-ego of LA's head honcho, Greg Nunn, and "Violinist Death" marks his third project under this alias. The first of the two 15-minute-long textured short stories will make you feel all warm and fuzzy, though there's also a hint of mystery lurking beneath. The second composition feels more fragmented and disoriented - almost like a mini-album in its own right. Check those out!

There was a short lathe run of those, but they sold out. Instead, you can get the digital here. Stream both tracks below.

Fever Ray - I'm Not Done (Therapy Session) // video

"

Iconic video for an iconic remix. Fever Ray revisits their single "I'm Not Done" from the first album, and curates an intimate therapy session that features some of the most iconic characters developed over their career. You can cop the single on Bandcamp here.
